Basic Skills and Qualifications:
It is preferred that the Director have a minimum of three years supervisory experience, and must have the ability to work well with and foster a team environment among staff, children, parents, Board and Arch Street Presbyterian Church. The Director must also have a strong understanding of: child development, finance and budgeting skills, excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills. The Director must have infant/child CPR and First Aid certification, must clear full background check and must pass health screening.

State Criteria:
Director must meet requirements of state code 3270.34 including: general management including designating a staff person responsible for compliance with state regulations in Director’s absence; a Bachelor’s degree in education (early childhood, elementary or special education) or human services and 1 year experience with children or meet other requirements of 3270.34 (Master’s Degree preferred); must be present at the facility a minimum of thirty hours per week; and may function as a group supervisor in facility with less than 45 children.

Job Responsibilities:
The Director is responsible for leading Arch Street Preschool to achieve its mission. The Director is directly accountable for overall operational management in accordance with well-established guidelines, including curriculum development, staff and facilities management, legal and budgetary considerations, and long range planning implementation. The Preschool Director ensures that the needs of the students and the goals of the center are met appropriately. The Director reports to the Board and is employed on a full-time basis.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities of the Director:
1. Board Engagement
Participates as an ex-officio member and works with Board Chair by attending monthly meetings, communicating with key Board committee chairs; creates agenda and reports prior to meetings; and discusses programs and policies.
2. Arch Street Presbyterian Church Engagement
In concert with support from Board, Director works: 1) as a contact between the preschool and the Church for building operations; and 2) with the Session of the Church by establishing effective collaboration through oral communication and periodic written reports on the general life and relevant finances of the preschool.
3. Budget and Finance
Administers the program within the limits of the budget; submits all income and expenses information to accountant; makes bank deposits, pay bills, collects tuition payments and follows up on tuition in arrears.
4. Development
Composes an annual appeal and maintains mailing list with the Development Committee; acknowledges all contributions and makes personal calls to individuals giving over $100; builds relationships with foundations and pursues/documents grants; coordinates annual special events; maintains and builds relationships with other churches, community partners, local businesses, and other organizations and preschools.
5. Building and Operations
Supervises annual state licensing procedure and ensures school is safe and maintained.
6. Management of Staff and Support Personnel
Updates Employee Handbook and job descriptions for staff and support personnel; hires and trains staff and supports personnel; compiles personnel files and conducts annual Performance Reviews; develops and schedules staff, staff meetings, and staff training; ensures that teachers create a joyful learning community.
