Brief Overview:
This Library Assistant works as part of Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh’s innovative Early Learning BLAST outreach team. They will be tasked to help lead and implement professional development workshops and outreach storytime programs for early child care providers and children in select child care settings in the City of Pittsburgh.

Job Responsibilities:
• Assisting in the management and evaluation of a new pilot project under the leadership of the Early Learning Lead Librarian and Children’s Services Coordinator;
• Presenting and implementing professional development workshops for early child care providers in STAR 1 & 2 settings;
• Working collaboratively with peer professionals within the Library system to develop and present dynamic early literacy-rich storytimes for early learners and their child care providers;
• Cultivating and maintaining relationships with library staff, child care providers, directors, partners, early learners and their caregivers and families, to ensure access, cooperation, and success;
• Representing the Library to the public and other agencies partnering with CLP;
• Working with neighborhood libraries across the City of Pittsburgh to implement and support early learning programs and events.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education;
• Demonstrate experience working with early learners (0-5) in a classroom, child care, or large group setting;
• Knowledge of early literacy and child development and how to implement early learning activities in a classroom or child care setting;
• Knowledge of the City of Pittsburgh, demographics, community contacts, early learning initiatives and community agencies;
• Knowledge of public library services, especially to early learners and their adult caregivers;
• Ability to provide, maintain, perform data entry and manage all aspects of statistical data requested by the Library and for grant reporting purposes;
• Ability to perform quality customer service, in person and via phone/email;
• Energetic, highly-organized, self-motivated, and possessing strong leadership skills;
• Excellent written and oral communication skills;
• Ability to accurately and consistently apply policies and procedures;
• Knowledge of current technologies and electronic resources, including Microsoft Office and The Pennsylvania Key’s Professional Development Registry;
• Ability to take direction and work both independently and as part of a team;
• PA State Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance, FBI Fingerprint Criminal Records Check and Mandated Reporter Training upon offer of employment.
